College lunches?

im going to be going to college soon, and i have to live in a dorm room. and its required that you pick a meal plan. the only problem is that Im a vegan and i dont know if the school has vegan options. i read in the book that they have alternitaves like for the weigh concious and vegetarian, but im hopeing that includes vegan. so if they dont offer food i can eat what do i do? are small fridges aloud in dorms? what do u recomend i do? i absoultely refuse to switch my diet and if worst comes to worst, then i guess i just wont go to that college. oh by the way the college is Mesa State College, in Grand Junction colorado. if i could i would live at home, but the school is like 6 hours away from where i live.

College lunches?
Call the school and ask. If worse comes to worse, is living off campus sharing an apartment or house with others not an option? I never lived in a dorm, just student houses and it worked out great for me.

Just found the menus for your school on their website. They seem to have a vegan option for lunch at any rate.
Reply:Hmmm generally, you may have a small fridge in your room. If not, then I guess you have to live off of porridge or something %26gt;_%26gt;
Reply:go to the schools web page, and check out their student life section, if there isn't any information, call their student services office, they should be able to help you out
Reply:How large is the college?

The larger the better chances you will find vegan options on the menu.

Some schools are teaming up with local merchants to allow meal plans to be charged when dining out in local restaurants.

Chances are you will be able to have a small fridge.
Reply:most colleges have vegan and vegetarian friendly diets. infact college cities are considered the most vegetarian friendly cities in the country. call the college and ask. they might not be the options for food, but still pretty good.
Reply:Generally you are allowed a small fridge and microwave, but it will depend on your school. You should contact their food services department to find out the information you want to know.
Reply:Okay, don't worry.

I go to college and I'm in the same situation as you. It's very hard for me to find vegetarian food because I go to an agriculture school that really has no selection of vegetarian food.

The school probably has a salad bar. If it looks relatively safe (there's a chance that there will be bacon and cheese in different containers- so be aware) without any meat or cheese products in the other containers with the tofu, beans, tomatoes, etc, then you should be fine.

I don't believe that there are certain meal plans that you can choose specifically if you are vegan or vegetarian. THe majority of the students probably won't be vegetarian/vegan and the school probably wouldnt' go out of their way to making a special meal plan unfortunately.

If you have any idea what kinds of food that they offer at the school (check out the school's website and see if they have the menu online or maybe contact someone who works in the food place.)

If you can locate a natural food store in the area, that would be an option as well. If you can get an idea of how the food will be at the school before you purchase a meal plan, that would make deciding a lot better. Get the meal plan with the lowest amount of meals and then go the store for vegan food. Or, if the food is suitable for vegans, then buy a meal plan with a few more meals a week.

I don't know if the collge that you are going to uses plus dollars, but if plus dollars come with the meal plan, then that would be very helpful. There's bound to be a few products that are vegan friendly at the restaurants or markets on campus.

Yes, a fridge would be helpful as well so if you go to the market you can bring back tofu or vegetables and fruit.

Good luck!!!
