Age of college students in the usa?

Hey. I'm from another country. In my country students usually enroll into college right after high school, only a minority of them go to college one or two years after college. I have a few questions about college in the usa.

1.what's the average age of undergrads student over there?

2.Here in my country freshmen are usually 18, 19 and have no problems graduating 4 years later, is that also the case there?

3.I heard that a lot of students take some courses before they really go to university and it takes a couple of years is that also common?

4.what's the difference of college and university there?

5.how old are the average graduate students?

6.How come some people are only 16, 17 but already in college?

Age of college students in the usa?
1) The average age of college students vary. Some people have left school to have families or worked for a few years before returning or starting college.

2) Sometimes that is the case depending on how hard the degree program was and if or if not the student did poorly one semester or took some time off from school. Also, if the student worked or not depends on how quickly they graduate because it may take longer if you only take part time classes.

3) Yes it is common to take courses before transferring to a university because you get all your prerequsities done and it is normally cheaper to do this at a community college. When you get to the university you jump right into the program and saved some money.

4) College and university are sometimes the same thing and it depends on what school it is. I call my school college but it is really a university. Also, for instance, a college is the various degree programs of the school= college of engineering, college of business etc. So college can mean two different things depending on who you talk to.

5) Graduate students age also varies because some students after receiving the BA or BS degree will work for a few years to get some experience or they are just burnt out from school. Some grad students are 25, while others are 40. It really depends on what choices that person made in their lives.

6) There are poeple that are 16, and 17 already in college because they either graduated early, did homeschooling or got their GED. There are many programs that allow these people to start their basic college classes ahead of time. Such as English, Math or their core sciences.

I hope I answered all your questions.
Reply:It varies but usually they go after high school so they are between 17 %26amp; 19 but some take Jobs or go in the military before starting college so they will be in their 20's some go later in life and there are instances of people in their 40's, 50's and even 60's back in school. There are also very young prodigy's that complete college when they are in their early teens.
