What I would suggest is to build a basic wardrobe. Decide what colors you like and build your wardrobe around them so everything matches (for me it is black, grey, red, burgundy and white).

Have at least a couple pairs of jeans and one or two pairs of dress pants, and at least one skirt. You can rotate these on a daily basis.

Get a plain color dress shirt (a white one is a good investment). Get a few tank tops and t-shirts in colors that go with the bottoms (at least 3 of each).

If it's cold where you live, you will need about 2-3 sweaters. A warm hoodie is a good investment, and so is a classic v-neck and a nice belted cardigan.

You will probably also need 2-3 long sleeve tops.

Don't forget to have a pair of shoes you can wear indoors (ballet flats work with everything) and a pair of boots. You might also need sneakers, especially if you plan to play sports.

To make your outfits look truly professional, you could invest in a blazer which matches a pair of the dress pants. This would work with jeans or the skirt, and with the slacks could be a good job interview suit.

This is a link for a store I shop at that might not be available in your area, but they have a really cool section that shows you how to select a few basic items and coordinate them to create several looks.

Reply:At my school, everyone wore pretty much whatever they wanted. Some people came in pajamas, some in jeans and t-shirts and some in skirts and heels. It's really up to you!

Some mornings I don't feel like getting dressed up so I will throw on a pair of either comfy jeans, jogging shorts, or vs "pink" sweatpants and a t-shirt.

No one really wears just one or two brands of clothing like they do in high school. There is such a variety of styles. And, people aren't so judgemental about what you wear either... (well SOME are, but they are concentrated in sororities and fraternities).

Whatever you have now will be fine to wear to college. You said you were taking business classes, so when you have to give presentations you may be required to wear business attire. If you go to a store like EXPRESS you will be able to find a nice pair of pants and a blazer. You can get a couple of different tops that go with the pants and the blazer that way you can change up how it looks, but you shouldn't need anything more than that.

Also you will want to invest in a really nice warm coat. North Face is pretty much a college staple when it comes to winter coats, but they can get expensive. However, with as much use as I get out of mine I feel like it is was completely worth the price. If you want to stretch your money... get a coat that has a removeable fleece lining, that way when it's not too cold out, you can wear the fleece. Make sure that you get one that is waterproof as well, so when it's raining you will be able to stay dry. Most campuses are fairly large, and you will be having to walk from one class to the next in the bitter cold or rain... or both. (of course this depends on where you go to school and the weather in that area.)

Also, get a pair of comfy shoes. There's nothing more funny that watching the girls that get all dressed up for class trying to walk around campus in high heels. Most people wear sperry's (really cute "boat shoes" that go with pretty much everything, and are so incredibly comfortable.) And New Balance tennis shoes are also pretty big, just because they look really cute with everything as well.

Good luck in college... Hope I could help a little.
