my dream since i was like 3 was to go to this one university. and i have kept that. even though i know my chances of getting in are slim.
i know that i can get in to a local university here.
but i kinda want to move away some. there is a community college. next to my dream college and i have family in that town. and i would only be going to the community college for 2 yrs and then hopefully transfer into my dream school.
do you think that community college and then my dream school would be better than straight to a local university?
i am having a hard time accepting the fact of community college. but the more i think about it the more i think i will struggle in a big enviorment such as a big university. i am afraid of failure of college. i am just worried. i am not sure what i really want to do. i need help. please. my parents wont really talk about it. (really my mom wont she is just like "ok... mmhm" my dad discusses it with me some)
i am just so confused (continue..)
Community college or State University?
heyy!!
i was in your shoes an year ago..but then i chose to go to local university just coz its more competitive than a community college. Moving from community college to a big university (as u mentioned, getting in is hard) will be tough. You might get all A's at community college and then suddenly when you move to the "dream" uni. you will be shattered to see your grades going down even after you work hard.
I would suggest to go for local uni. for now if it has a better education and is big enough and then if you want you can transfer to your "dream school". that transition wont be THAT hard.
:)
I actually got into my dream school but didn go there coz I got into the special program at the local univ. that saves me an year!
Reply:compare the costs...and find out if the courses will transfer to the larger college. Colleges have a game of where they will accept classes from. Sometimes it is best to go to the smaller community college take 2 years there and get your associates to transfer this gives you a bulk of classes to transfer. Then your other classes on the 300 or 400 level classes all can be more concentrated towards your degree field. In some cases I have known of people that took two years transferred to another college and then after a semester into the dream school. this kept the credits together while transferring because of school agreements; other wise they would have had to go another year because of loss of credits. Also while the community school are not geared as hard as the larger schools they give you some time to decide which program you want to get into. You can also possibly duel enroll and take classes at both schools but if classes will transfer take them at the cheaper school. You could possibly be working on two degrees at the same time if you be careful on classes that transfer and watch the electives.
Reply:I have a different take than the first poster.
I think you should go to the CC first. It will save you a lot of money that can be put towards getting a post grad qual like a masters. You can keep in touch with your dream school to ensue you are on track to get admitted.
And don't worry about transitioning from the CC to the college - it is easier than going from HS to college.
Also I think you may have the wrong idea about CC's. Check out under the CC heading:

They are not the place for losers etc. Many people who can easily get direct entry to colleges are taking that route to save money. This is especially true of those who want to do medicine as medical school is frightfully expensive.
If the CC you want to go to has some type of early admissions program such as running start I think they are great as well. Get admitted to the 4 year university earlier so your can take your time in completing your bachelors.
Thanks
Bill
