College Applications- How to Do It?

so ive started doing these little things called college applications. im approaching teachers and my counselor for recommendations and they need lots of time to do it- for us they want minimum of 3 weeks.

so with some colleges i can just give them a separate recommendation form from the rest of the application (essay, activites , classes etc.) because practically everything is done online now. but some of these colleges require supplements to the college application and theyre only available in paper form.

so if there is a paper application/supplement to fill out, is it possible to give teachers only the materials pertaining to letters of recommendation while i send the other sections (which might include essays) later?

im willing to bet the answer is no because if i was a college reviewer i wudnt want materials sent at different dates, but im just curious because i wanna get the letters out ASAP. and the essays take a really long time to write, so im going nuts here.

thanks

College Applications- How to Do It?
It's fine to send things out separately. As soon as a college receives one thing from you, they open up a file, and put everything else they receive from you in it as they get it. They open it up and look at everything after the deadline for applications has passed.
Reply:It depends on the college. Sometimes they want all the materials together and other times they will accept the recommendation (or require them) separate for the application. If you do send them separately make sure that you give the university notification that they will be sent separately. This can be done as simply as including a short letter that says who the recommendation will be from. When you give the information to your recommender you should make sure they know what program you are applying to and why you're interested in that program. It is also a good idea to include a copy of your transcript, resume and/or application essay to your recommenders. Make sure all the information that you can fill out is filled out on the recommendation form. Include your name, address, even their name and positions on the forms. This takes time to do and if they have less of this to do the quicker the recommendations can get done. Make sure you tell them if they would like you to have the information returned to you or mailed right away. If you would like to have the letters mailed out make sure you give them an addressed and stamped envelope.

Make sure you also tell the teachers when you need the letters by. Most universities have a date that they want all materials by. Give the teachers the amount of time they ask for. I would recommend asking them before you give them the materials. It is more polite and it will give them a heads up. I had some professors that wanted to do them all over Breaks and wanted to be able to plan ahead.

Good luck
