Does anyone know that if I take a class at a community college during high school and put it on the high school transcript, will it also count as college credit?
My vice principal said some colleges will not accept it as college credit if the class are put on high school transcript and will only accept the credit if it's not on the transcript.
Does this apply to the UC system? Anyone ever done that before?
College credit question?
I don't know about the UC system but I would say the best thing to do would be to call the college directly and ask them about it. It doesn't matter what anybody else will tell you...the only thing that matters is that specific college's policy on giving credit for courses. Also, if you do call up and talk with somebody make sure that you get their name so that if later on something comes up where you're being told different (like there's no way the college is going to give you credit for the class but the person told you they would) you have that person's name to back you up.
Hope this helps at least a little bit.
Reply:Talk to the enrollment dept of the colleges. My college did not accept any community college courses unless you were a matriculated student at the college.
Reply:It depends on the level of the course and what university you decide to attend. Lower level or remedial courses won't count but i got some credit at a university for 100 level classes at a community college that i took in high school. I don't know about the UC system but in Illinois all of the state universities accept community college courses taken in high school for college credit even if they appear on the transcript. If you know what school you are going to call or email their admissions department to find out which classes will transfer. Even if you do take theses classes, it is important to remember that the curriculum may not be the same from school to school and you may want to take the class again, even if you don't have to, just to make sure that you are on the same level with everyone else.
Reply:Your VP is right. If you took the community college class to replace a high school class (at my high school, for example, instead of AP Econ, we could take a zero-hour Collin County Community College Econ course that was taught at the high school by a CCCC professor), then you probably need to put it on your transcript, and then most colleges won't accept it as a transfer. If, however, you took the class completely independent of high school for fun or whatever, just don't put it on your high school transcript. Get a seperate transcript from the community college and, if the class transfers to the university (each university accepts different classes from certain community colleges, just contact them to find out),then it'll be fine. However, you do need to find out exactly what your status at the comm college was (ie-part time student), because some universities don't accept credits if you weren't officially matriculating at the comm college.
