COLLEGE GUY IN NEED OF HELP!! What should i DO??

Hi. I need your help real bad. My family is havin some (big) financial difficulty. we are close to $ 42,000 (yes that's rite forty two thousand dollars in DEBT!)

Althought I have enough money to get thru college for two more semisters, I have been thinking of helpin my parents out by workin full time (i already work part time) My parents are tryin their best by keepin me away from this matter and are tellin me to concentrate on my studies only. I have conveyed the idea of me working full time to my mom...but she gets upset thinking that they are not doing a good job of providing for us.

They have been excellent parents but i just feel obligated to help them out. I don't know wether i should work full time as soon as my fall semsiter ends or if i should continue on with college next semister. I am not giving up on my college but will only be out for a semister or two at most.

I will have to lie to my mom about me goign to college and actually leaving for work. Wut should i do? hel

Stay in school! Don't lie or work full-time (if it is going to hurt your education.) You will be better to help them when you finish school and get a well paying job. During the summer, you can work full-time or more.

This is my gut advice. However, I do not know all the specifics. Is this a life or death issue or is this just debt? There are many ways to solve debt problems such as contact creditors and negotiating payment plans, even reduced debts if they can pay a lessor amount in full. Go to Dave Ramsey's Real Debt help website.. http://www.daveramsey.com/

Believe it or not $42,000 is not a lot of debt when you hear of some of the stories that he has helped people get out of debt. You can also ask him or his organization for free help. they are experts! I think they would agree, that you should not risk your future on this by stopping school, because it is not your debt.

I was wondering, Why do you feel so obligated..is some of the debt due to your schooling or yours or is it because you love your parents?

Hope this is helpful.

Praying to God in Jesus name does wonders!

Reply:Your mum is correct. Concentrate on your studies. You may think that missing 1-2 semesters is alright but come the time, you may feel so comfortable about working that you decide to drop the studies altogether. Remember, 1-2 semesters are short time compared with you having to work your life with cheap salaries. Get that degree and you will command better salaries and incentives. Then you can jump in and help your parents financially. Have your parents speak with the bankers to rework on the loan repayment.
Reply:Sounds like a scam.
Reply:Dont leave college. that will be the worst part. manage with your part time jobs.Everything will fall in its place at the right time. dont loose courage and hope.
Reply:You should finish college and get a degree. That way you would get a better paid job, and would be able to help much more.
Reply:i think that you're parents are doing all they can to keep you in college and it would hurt them the most that you postpone your studies.

if you do not want to be a financial burden, you can get a student subsidized loan from the US govt (assuming you are in the US).

But you should also accept the fact that your parents' burden is their own and not yours. you're a good son to be concerened and want to help, it shows they raised you right. but you can't take over their burdens. first, you must do right for yourself by getting your degree and getting a good job. then, when you're financially secure, you can help. I'm sure you'll have plenty of opportunities to help them when you're secure and they're in old age and really need your help.

now, i think they want to do all they can to get you started on a good life. follow their wishes for you. that's how you can help them the most.

good luck!
Reply:Stay at school.....let your parents handle it. Everything will work out in the end.
Reply:If you think it would take the stress off your parents to work full time and pay for your own school and extras, it can be done.

But if you are planning to quit school to take care of your parents, don't do it. Your parents want you to avoid having the financial problems that they are by assuring that you have a good education to get a stable career. DO NOT QUIT SCHOOL.

People have managed to climb out of worse debt than your parents. (There are college students with worse debt) They may have to file bankruptcy in the process or consolodate their debt, but they are going to be OK. You can help them more in the long run when you are making more zeroes behind that paycheck. It is wonderful that you care so much about your parents. When they get older and cannot take care of themselves, they will be comorted to know that you will be there to help them.
Reply:First of all hats off to you.Just do what your heart says.No matter, what happens,They will be proud of you.
