College is for idiots. My Professor said it himself!!!!!!!?

College is for idiots. My Professor said it himself!!!!!!!?

This is exactly what my professor said, " The Real world is out there. Why are all of you here ? to get a valuable piece of paper? thats going to get you more money?(he laughs) If you were smart you wouldn't be waisting 4-10 years of your life to make more money. You would be making money and growing economically everyday, right now. You would not be waisting $40,000 to learn something that you could learn by yourself. The real world is out there people, not in here. Open your minds

and you could achieve anything. You don't need college, you need to open your minds and start thinking. People that don't go to college are said to be none thinkers.Well the irony is, People that go to college are the once that don't think. Unless you wan't to be a Teacher or a doctor, You shouldn't be here. College is not giving you something that you can't get by yourself. You don't need a piece of paper.

Note: He retired the next day.

College is for idiots. My Professor said it himself!!!!!!!?
College isn't a magic career factory where you go in and get a degree sprinkled with pixie dust to get you six figures in your first year.

A college degree _used to be_ your ticket to success. One reason was that a college degree was unusual. It meant that you had gone above and beyond what a normal person could. Now, everybody's turning in their AP credits and shelling out cash for their SAT tutors and doing everything in their power to prepare for college. So, now, everyone is getting in to college so that degree is useless. Now you need more certification to have an edge. It's getting pathetic. At the HSBC near me, every single one of the tellers has a Masters degree in Finance. The best job they can land with their degrees from top colleges is cashing checks and giving people rolls of quarters.

People spend their entire lives preparing for college. What about once you're in there? More importantly, what about when you get out? If you start school in kindergarten and leave after your senior year of college, you'll have spent 17 years in school. 17 years of working for a teacher, of getting graded, of doing what you're told, of having requirements, of having your way paid by your family. What about when there's no scholarship or financial aid for your rent? What about when you have to figure out what to do with your life and your degree, and there are no required courses or number of credits?

If you spend 17 years in an environment as unrealistic as school, all you're going to know how to handle is school.

Tell me, graduates. When was the last time you had to parse a sentence? Or deal with high school-type drama? When was the last time the police would pick you up if you didn't go to work? When was the last time you got a guidance counselor if you didn't meet your deadline?

School is a waste of time.
Reply:Maybe he just meant it was a waste of money for you.
Reply:I am an Information Systems Manager with no formal schooling. I learned it all myself.
Reply:I guess I'm an idiot who makes 80 grand a year, working 3 shifts a week thanks to a couple years in college then. Have fun working at Burger King.

I think the real idiot is you, the person who can't spell "wasting", among dozens of other things, and capitalizes random words because they don't know grammar.
Reply:Well if he is telling the truth then drop out and save yourself a bundle of money.
Reply:i think he is an idiot because education now days are important .
Reply:Well it's funny cause he sure did "waste" at least 4 years to become a professor. anyway, i think education is important now, but also street smarts and experience. and also, some ppl to work and go to school at the same time, so.
Reply:Sounds like he was a bitter old man. College is not a waste of time and money as long as you don't make it one. You get what you put into college.
Reply:Though, you may feel there is a truth in his speech but that does not mean the world feels that way.

I do not have a degree of any kind. I only went to college as an adult to take a biblical studies course. I have been told I am over experienced, under experienced, have no degree... and the list goes on. I do believe we can make opportunities for ourselves. I have been VERY persistent and landed jobs. I do not think a college education is a waste.

You will get out of college as much as you put into it. Are you just putting in your time to get a piece of paper?

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Yes, you can learn without benefit of college. The next question is how do you prove you have the knowledge? There are some fields you will not get a job without a degree. Of course there are the ones your professor mentioned but there are others.

He retired next day? Was the class at its end? If it was not and he retired suddenly what do you think he rational was for his speech? Not all things are as they appear.....

An education is not a waste... not using what you learned or building on what you learned would be a waste in my honest opinion.
Reply:Interesting perspective. But in 99.9% of cases, students need guidance and instruction. Not everyone is a genius like Albert Einstein.

Sure, I'm a motivated individual. Could I have learned all of my studies without college? Probably... But it would've taken me 15 years instead of 4.
