College question very easy to answer?
You choose a major and research the colleges you're interested in to see if they offer that kind of program. In your case, you'd look for colleges that offer journalism majors.
Each major has different requirements (classes that you need to take) to graduate with a degree in that major. To get a career in that field, you need that degree (in most cases).
Some people also go to college not knowing what they want to do for a career, so they could go in "undeclared," but you have to choose a major within a couple of years.
Hope that cleared it up a little.
Reply:Most colleges and universities offer a broad range of different "majors", but none has absolutely everything, so if you have an idea of what you want to do, you go to a college which has a major in that subject matter. If, by the time you apply to college, you still have the same interests, you would want to go to a college with an undergraduate journalism major (not every school offers this) along with a good English department (most schools do have an English department).
Reply:Vocational schools are schools you can go to for a specific career, they are usually only 2 or 4 year schools. Most schools have websites you can visit to find out more information about that particular school and it's degree program. If you plan on getting a 4 year degree you can save a lot of money by taking all your prerequisites at a community college before going to a a university. If you get with your high school's guidance councilor they can give you a ton of information. Good luck.
Reply:You can attend any college that offers the major that relates to the career you want, though it's best to look for which colleges do the best job of teaching that major. Colleges don't offer careers by the way, they offer majors. A major is a field of study that concentrates on a certain subject. For example, in your case, I would look for colleges that offer journalism as a major. If you pick that, the college will specify which classes you need to take to get a degree in journalism. The classes will probably concentrate on writing and public relations.
Reply:You are only 14 so don't stress too much now, but it's good you are already thinking of careers. Basically if you wanted to go to college to be a writer then you would talk to a guidance counselor (only because you aren't quite sure of the different colleges and their strong points). They would then help you apply to a couple different colleges of your choice. You would probably apply to them for English, Journalism or whatever related field they offer a degree program in. When you actually get to college you will be put in lots of different (but all related) courses the first year so that you get a feeling for what you really like. In about your second last year you will need to decide a major. A major basically narrows everything down to be more specific in the area you like the most. From there work experience and such things help you to really get good at what you like and potentially find yourself a career!
Good luck!
