College, Degree's and The Military?

I KNOW I want to join the military, preferably Airforce, second choice Navy... Definately NOT the army. ( no offense, I have good reasons ).

I took my ASVAB ( scored 76 ), and want to become a Food Service Manager ( Officer ) However, The college I want to attend that offers a "Hospitality Administration and Management" program, only offers the ARMY ROTC program.

Also the college is a Historically Black college, and I'm white, But I figured this wouldnt be too much of a hurdle. I chose this college because its 30 minutes away from where I live, but I have some questions still unanswered.

1) Can the military pay for my college? How?

2) Can I recieve my Bachelors first and then join?

3) How can I improve my chances of being enlisted as an Officer?

4) Do I have to join the ROTC to join the military without being "enlisted"?

College, Degree's and The Military?
I think I answered one of your questions previously...are there any crosstown schools that offer AFROTC? and also, does your HBCU offer minority aid? Some HBCUs offer minority aid to non-African American students.

To answer your other questions:

1) We offer a lot of scholarships, plus stipend plus book money

2) If you want to be an officer, you have to receive your bachelors first.

3) 80% of Air Force officers come from ROTC. The rest come from OTS and the Academy

4) You need to work on joining the AF Academy your sophmore year in HS....; this year OTS is accepting 174 new people. So ROTC is the best thing going for most people. I have no stats for AROTC or NROTC...I don't have access to their numbers.
Reply:1) The military will pay for your school if you go to the ROTC or service academy for that service.

2) Yes, however, you will have a harder time, and will have to pay for your own school if you do not go the ROTC/ service academy route

3) Cannot be enlisted as an officer, you have to be commissioned, and to do that you have to have a degree/ OBC. You CAN be direct commission, but those usually go to higher technical jobs like nursing. Also, there is no guarantee that you will come in as a Food Service Manager, no matter what your degree, unless it is a professional degree you will come in needs of the military with a wish list of what you want to be.

4)No, see answer above.
Reply:Well, you can no longer just join the military as an officer just because you have a college degree. You have to get your commission in one of a few ways, ROTC, service academy, OCS. The Air Force does have a program that allows college grads to come in as officers but it is very selective and they are NOT on the lookout for food service managers. Trust me when I tell you that you would not even pass the test if you are planning on hospitality management as your degree. If you don't do ROTC or one of the academies you will have to enlist and then go to OCS (officer candidate school) but that is risky (if you fail for any reason including injury you are finished) and you don't have any control over what field you work in.

Nobody "enlists as an officer" you either enlist or you are commissioned. Your best bet would be ROTC by far, I can't help you with your problem with the Army but the Army has FAR more opportunities than you will find with the AF. If you do ROTC, they give you a payment every month, although it's not enough to live on, it's just small money but very helpful if you aren't rich. I can't recall now what the Army has available for college loan repayment, it's been a few too many years, but the basic benefit would be the commission.
