Community college or 4 year university? PLEASE HELP!!?

ok so... I am starting college in the fall and am trying to decide which college to go to... I live in Carrollton, Ga which is home to the University of West Georgia, a 4 year school... I have been accepted there. HOwever, now I am thinking of starting at a community college in Virgina and transferring into University of Virginia (one of the best universities inthe country). Either way, if i go to UWest Georgia or the community college, i will transfer, however if i go to the community college in Virginia i am guaranteed acceptance in to UVA. Is it better to start out at a 4 year school but not have guaranteed acceptance for transfer or to start out at a community college and have guaranteed acceptance to UVA... please help?? (PS you might want to take into account that later i plan to get my doctorate and become an english professor, how does community colle effect that?)

This is an interesting choice. I think the main point is that you want to go on to a PhD. The U of WGA will not help you do that. Graduating from the UVA will. So, I think you should go to the CC. If you do well, then you will graduate from UVa and everyone will be impressed. If you do badly at CC then you know that you could never have become a PhD anyway, so what does it matter? And you could go back to UWGA to finish your English BA before becoming an 8th grade English teacher with an MEd.

Reply:Since you are committed to transferring to U. of Va, go there and start at a community college. The quality of education will be equivalent. Moreover, transferring from Georgia to Virginia could be a nightmare--I don't know about U. of Va. specifically, but many four-year universities reject most out-of-state credits (they want those tuition dollars for themselves).
Reply:i think its better to start out at a community college. Thats what I did when I started out. You learn the same stuff in the beginning but theres a smaller class size so you can actually get your professors attention when you need it.
Reply:Guaranteed acceptance to where you're transferring cannot be beat. As long as you do well in both the school that you start at and UVA, there shouldn't be any effect from first starting at a community college, so I would definitely recommend starting there.
Reply:Go to the a Virgina Community College IF (like you said) you are guaranteed to get into UVA.
Reply:Is money a consideration? If you live in GA then you will pay in-state tuition, but you will not in VA. The choice between a four year college and a community college is the same, can you afford the four year? If I could I would probably start there since I wouldn't have to worry about transferring credits.





If you maintain good grades then you will probably be accepted at VA, especially if you are an out of state student.
