College is the best time of your life, haha?

Alright so I am a 19 year old guy in college. I would really like to know who the moron was that said college is the best time of your life. I can garuntee you its not and if it is I am in for a shitty life, if this is all I have to look forward to. I remember always hearing this growing up and seeing all the movies about how great college is and all this other crap. I was so excited to go to college, well I am now in college almost done with my first year, ya it sucks nothing great about it. I find it is almost as bad as highschool other then I dont have to wake up early ya. So what I want to know is why is college hyped up so much and where did all this crap come from?????

College is the best time of your life, haha?
A lot of that crap about "such-and-such years are the best years of your life" is just that: crap.

I think people have to make their own best times. So many people expect to be able to sit back and let the good times fall into their laps, so to speak. Having fun and enjoying oneself requires a bit of effort and determination. If you go into a situation with the idea that you will be miserable or that you are owed a good time, then you will likely be miserable. Period.

On the other hand, if you enter into something (like school, or a job, or your thirties, or whatever) with the plan that *in spite of* difficulties, you are still gong to be a happy, well-rounded person who has a good time, then you will be far, far better off.

Sounds like you need an attitude adjustment, first and foremost.
Reply:You have to understand that there is a very wide variety of experiences that you can have in college. It really just depends on the person and what they do during college. Yeah, it can suck, can't say all of my experience was just peachy, but some of it was great times that I hope to remember till the day I die. I guess what I am getting after is that college is what you make of it, and you've made it suck.
Reply:it is what you make it...maybe you are just a miserable person??? I LOVED my college years...sex all over the place, made my own rules, met some wonderful people, had some of the best nights of my life, learned and did well enough to make a good living and take care of my family now. I would recommend it to ANYONE...who is willing to take advantage and enjoy it...
Reply:With an attitude like that, no wonder you aren't enjoying college. It is true that college is the BEST time of your life! I had a wonderful time and made many great and lasting friendships--try socializing more with your classmates.
Reply:people say the same thing about high school which was MISERABLE for me! personally my 20's has been a blast! it varies for everyone but you'll have your time :-) best wishes
Reply:bc ur not living at home and its the last 4 years of ur life until u go out into the real world.
Reply:exactly what were you expecting? College IS an extension of high school, you still have to study and go to class, AND you have to pay for it....and work....and live in a dorm room unless you're lucky enough to be able to share an apartment with 5 other students..........movies are MOVIES. They're scripted and have an ending. Life goes on with all of the unexpected twists and turns and ho-hum boooooredom........keep in mind, life is what you make of it. Change things about your life and maybe you'll have a better time. BTW, life really doesn't start being fun till you're old and know how to enjoy yourself...and appreciate waking up in the morning!
Reply:Didn't you already post this? Or was it someone else? Anyway, for lots of people, college is the best time of their lives. It means being responsible for yourself and your actions, not having your parents around all the time to dictate what you do, and freedom. College really is what you make of it. If you're not putting forth any effort to have a good time and to get the most out of the experience, then that's your own fault. Yeah, the school basics are the same .. you still need to go to class and do homework, but your non-class time is completely your own. Use it to make new friends, try new things, learn about yourself, whatever.
